I played my first game of 7th Sea on Saturday night. Not just the tabletop version but a converted LARP which meant Baroque and early Rococo fashion everywhere! WHEEEEE! I was so proud of everyone's efforts to come nicely garbed, and half of us where complaining about our last minute jobs and lack of full phys rep. It can only get better! My character ' Pearl ' is a Montaigne noble in masque who has joined the explorers society (with the help of a friend) to escape the boredom of her courtly lifestyle and disinterested husband. At home Nicolette (her actual name) is a spoiled trophy wife with everythign she could ever want: pastries, socialite company, gossip, perfumes, a stable full of racehorses... but how much partying and gossiping can one take before it becomes droll. She has become absolutely obsessed with reading adventure novels about great explorers and is now becoming part of her escapist dreams!
Within minutes of starting game she already had a clique of women to gossip and giggle with! LOLZ! And is now chasing after a fine looking military man. Nicolette might be faithful, but her new alter-ego is all to aware of her empty marital bed.
I want to start doing some period style portraits of my cliquey little Colette. I should take some decent photos of the garb. Maybe I could borrow one of Jeff's Rapiers for a shoot... ooooh!

My first tunic is now dyed! I was nervous about my first proper dye bath. It wasn't as strong as I should have made it, even after hours of boiling and reducing a mixture of hemock bark and a tough of coffee grounds, but the result is lovely. Just a nice natural tannin tone. It doesn't seem remarkable, but it's much better looking on the finished piece than the bright raw cotton. I'm very happy! I'll let it dry on the line outside a while longer then de-wrinkle it and take some proper photos with my partner's assistance. (love you Will! I know you read my journals, and that's so sweet!)
I like the look of this method even more than pre-dyed fabrics even when they come in natural colours. This really does look much more authentic! Beautiful! I'm going to keep going with natural cotton and linen items and the home collected dyes! There are so many possibilities to explore!
I'm going to need a bigger pot! hehe!
