A pic of my character Cheko, from Inexistence. He was born on the game, and is a constant worry to his sire. Kai dreads the fact that it will most likely be his own colt that will steal control of their herd. There's not much fighting poor Kai can do with the damage from his DJD. Cheko is your typical impulsive young colt, he never listens to his dam's teachings...well, except for the most gruesome monster stories. He'd probably follow a coyote for days hoping to see it battle a monster like in the legends (good old coyote! he's been to the moon, you know!) It'll be very interesting to see where life takes him in the game. I just hope he doesn't try to sneak some of the range mares from Crowfeather Ranch. I don't think he'd have the sense to take off if a ranch hand pulled out a gun! We can't always tell our characters what's best for them, especially one like Cheko.
As for the technical shtuff, I like this one overall. I didn't nother to work much with backgrounds. I might go back and draw him his own at somepoint, but I really don't enjoy drawing landscapes.... I still haven't drawn any for the game!
Love his hair, love his feathering, love the way his coat colour came out, and I think his snowcap is adorable! So different from his skinny little chestnut sister!
And yes, this is the horse I used for "Inexistence Mists". Just removed the appy markings to simlify things.
(Inexistence and Cheko are both the creative property of Joce Weir, no stealies please! )
yeah, Inexistence is a text based rpg I run. fits into the forgotten 'realistic horse rpg' genre. I'm trying to reorganize a few things right now but it's still running pretty smoothly with the group I've got. ([link])
My characters are Kai, Nitika, Inuk, Cheko,Taborri, Grit, and a few NPCs on the ranch.
IRL, I used to manage a herd of 78 mixed - geldings, mares, one pony stallion, it was very complex. I noticed that even when gelded, the males did take preferred mares into bunches with them. One horse I worked with was an appendix with cropped ears who preferred skinny mares, and my horse liked either huge draft mares or short fat mares.
Legacy's current "girlfriend" is a Percheron mare with a filly, who follows her "poppa" everywhere; but he also has an ex-racehorse and a black appendix QH mare as his "herd." There are two other geldings where he's boarded, but he largely ignores them unless they come near his "herd."
I've got a site up for him, haven't updated in a while. Perhaps I will. <[link]
I'm thinking about getting a small group set up and joining the game; depends on how things go internet and job-wise in the next couple of days!
Yeah.
There is like.. zero realistic rpg's on the internet now.
I've actually become inactive on Inexistance.
:S
I just don't have time for RPG's anymore.
I should probably post that I'm quitting.
And then maybe rejoin when I get time.
yeah, don't stress over it! if you don't have the time to enjoy it then it's good to let it go for now.
hehe, I wasn't actually gonna start a game but when I couldn't find any that were up to my personal standards I decided to make it happen. Turns out that lots of people are with me on that. I don't believe in the whole 'ultimate good' vs. 'ultimate evil' thing, so I'm not about to push it on a bunch of horses I like the balance of the natural world much more!
lucky! I've been deprived of horse-life, and my addiction to them has been frowned upon from the beginning. I would like to specialize my career a bit and get more into equine med. but it would require a move to Alberta, most likely. I'm really interested in breeding and genetics, but without an early foundation in riding, handling, and restraint I'm afraid nobody would ever give me a chance to even learn. It's all very troubling. A few summers at a dude ranch doesn't amount too much, even if I can handle a greenbroke western horse.
For now I have books, art, and models to feed the need. If I can get out of the GVRD perhaps I could afford some lessons and even boarding.
I know what you mean. My husband doesn't like horses - he was chucked from my boy a couple of times, so he says. LOL I know better. Legs just dropped his shoulder and "helped along" a fall, that's all. *snickers*
To "break into" the world of horsey stuff, the best thing I can think of is if you have stables in your area to see if they have openings for work like grooming, mucking and the like. It might be a hard way up, but the experience you gain is more than worth it.
I grew up around horses, so yeh, I have an unfair advantage; but my riding skill is nil since I got old, fat and realized that falling hurts like hell.
And my boy Legs is a multi-disciplinary horse, we haven't done much in the way of drilling and what not, but he's good enough for an experienced rider, or an average rider. I'm on the average side; I rode for a long time, then my aunt's horse died, and I didn't ride until 1999, then I fell off another ranch horse at the canter and smashed myself up a bit. So yeh, I was scared to get back on. Then I bought Legacy and while he's terrified the crap out of me from time to time, I'm slowly gaining my confidence back.
Confidence around horses is the hardest thing to acquire; but once you have that, everything else is just frosting on the carrot cake!
Yeah,
I guess I should probably post a message saying that I'm quitting all my charries for now.
I don't know if I will bring those back in particular,
but I know I will be back eventually.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.

He is a pretty boy. Reminds me of the Perch gelding Legacy used to run around with. Those two together... ah, the trouble they would get into!
